2017 Harper Court Summer Music Series

Hyde Park's Harper Court kicks off its Summer Music Series on Wednesday, June 28, with DJ Lady D and Poi Dog Pondering. Concerts continue all summer on the last Wednesday of each month, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free! There are a limited number of outdoor chairs available, so if you have a portable chair, please bring it. If you plan to dine nearby, both Harper Court and East 53rd Street offer many restaurant options. If you have a vehicle, you will find paid parking in the Harper Court building (entrance on South Lake Park Avenue near McDonald's), a small paid surface parking lot on South Harper Avenue (near Kilwins), and street parking. 2017 Tuesdays on the Terrace

Updated July 18, 2017 The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Chicago has an exciting lineup (check it out below) planned for this summer's Tuesdays on the Terrace concert series. From June 13 through September 26, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., enjoy jazz performances on the MCA's Anne and John Kern Terrace Garden. If it rains, the concert moves inside to the Marjorie Blum Kovler Atrium. Concert admission is free. Where Is the Terrace? The terrace is located on the second floor on the east side of the MCA. From inside the museum, you can access the terrace by going to the second floor and then exiting through the doors on the east side. You can also get to the terrace by entering the lawn area from the path along the park located behind the museum and then walking up the steps to the terrace. What Type of Seating Is Available? The Bells of Summer Ring at Rockefeller Chapel

Rockefeller Memorial Chapel's 51st season of The Bells of Summer opens on Sunday, June 26, 2016, with a performance by Rachel Perfecto of the Royal Carillon School, Mechelen, Belgium. This series of one-hour carillon concerts continues each Sunday through August 7. The concerts begin at 5 p.m. and admission is free! The public is invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic supper, find a spot on the chapel's lawn, and listen to the concert. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome. What Is a Carillon? A carillon is a set of stationary bells in a tower, usually played using a keyboard. A carillon is also a composition written or arranged for these bells. 2016 Rush Hour Concerts Summer Concert Series

Avoid the rush hour traffic. Instead, head to St. James Cathedral, located in Chicago at 65 East Huron Street, for the Rush Hour Concerts Summer Concert Series. Each Tuesday, June 7 through August 30, this series offers not only world-class chamber music performances, but also preconcert conversations involving a topic related to the evening's concert. Music in the Neighborhood

It’s summer in Chicago! If you love music, this is a great time to be in the Windy City. There are free concerts almost every evening throughout the summer. On Thursdays, you are invited to Music in the Neighborhood. From June 4 through August 27, St. James Cathedral presents free concerts featuring folk, jazz, blues, and more. At 5:30 p.m., Kyle’s Place opens for light food and drink. (The steps at the south end of the plaza lead to Kyle’s Place.) The music begins at 5:45 p.m. If you’re in the neighborhood on Tuesday evenings, St. James Cathedral hosts another summer music series. Join Rush Hour Concerts for Free Chamber Music

Rush Hour Concerts kicks off its 2015 Summer Concert Series at St. James Cathedral on June 2. Doors (enter on Wabash) open at 5 p.m. with preconcert conversations at 5:15 p.m. (Yes, there's homework! Visit Rush Hour Concerts online for suggested reading.) The free concerts, which feature chamber music, begin at 5:45 p.m. Each Tuesday, from June 2 through August 25, concerts feature 30 minutes of music by high-caliber musicians. This season will include performances by musicians from Chicago Symphony, Grant Park, Lyric Opera, and Civic Orchestras. For anyone unable to attend, the concerts are broadcast live on 98.7 WFMT.

2015 Tuesdays on the Terrace

Where can you enjoy a free jazz concert every Tuesday, from June 2 through September 29? At the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA). The MCA’s Tuesdays on the Terrace concert series takes place on the MCA’s Anne and John Kern Terrace from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Performances feature artists from Chicago’s world-renowned jazz community. Don’t have time to eat before coming to the concert? Here are some on-site options (outside food and beverages are not permitted): Reserve a spot on the terrace and enjoy a buffet ($26) featuring dishes using fresh, local produce from the MCA Farmers’ Market. Call 312.397.3805 to reserve a table. Choose from hamburgers, sausages, and salads available for purchase from the MCA’s outdoor grill and beverages from the bar on the lower terrace. Don’t have a reserved table on the terrace? Choose from the open seating on the terrace, or bring a blanket and find a spot on the lawn to relax and enjoy the concert.

Chicago's Downtown Sound Concerts Begin June 1

This year, Millennium Park’s free Downtown Sound concert series has expanded to include contemporary and electronic music artists (formerly part of the Loops and Variations series) as well as world music artists. The music series will continue to feature cutting-edge indie rock, pop bands, and rock veterans. What a mix! Concerts are scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays, from June 1 through July 23. The seating area opens to the public at 5:30 p.m. Arrive early to get a seat in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion Seating Bowl, or bring a blanket or chairs and find a spot on the Great Lawn. The music begins at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted).

Stop for a Free Rush Hour Concert

Rush Hour Concerts presents free music every Tuesday night from June through August.  The 30-minute concerts start at 5:45 p.m. at St. James Cathedral located in downtown Chicago at 65 East Huron Street.  Enter through the Wabash Avenue entrance.  Refreshments are served at 5:15 p.m. The St. James Cathedral is a beautiful setting for a concert.  It has several gorgeous stained glass windows and an amazing baptismal font.  The Ayer Memorial Baptismal Font was carved in Rome from Carrara marble by British sculptor Horatia Augusta Freeman. The concerts are broadcast live on 98.7 WFMT.  This is a fun, interesting format.  The WFMT host for the evening’s broadcast was Dave Schwan.  Mr. Schwan interviewed Jennifer Woodrum and Jani Parsons, two members of Fifth House Ensemble .  Concert attendees and WFMT listeners alike learned more about the pieces to be performed: Aram Khachaturian’s Trio for violin, clarinet, and piano in G minor and Béla Bartók’s Contrasts.  I...
