Chicago Racing Events | October 2016

Autumn display featuring orange pumpkins; deep red, yellow, orange, and white mums; gourds; squash; and cornstalks When you think of October, what images come to mind? Do you think of Halloween and finding, or making, just the right costume? Perhaps you picture a field full of brightly colored pumpkins ready to be harvested and become part of autumnal displays, be carved into jack-o'-lanterns to greet trick-or-treaters, or be baked into pies for a holiday meal. When I think of October, I picture colorful displays filled with autumn's bounty: pumpkins, gourds, ornamental corn, mums, and cornstalks.

If you're not already excited about the fall season, several of this month's events have seasonal themes that will be sure to help put you in a festive mood! Feel free to wear your Halloween costume at the following runs (get complete event details by following the links in the schedule):

  • Rosehill Cemetery Crypt 5K on October 8

  • St. Eugene School Trot 'n' Treat 5K & Monster Dash on October 22

  • Pumpkins in the Park 5K & CLIF Kid Spooky Sprints on October 22

  • Pumpkin Spice 5K on October 23

  • Monster Dash Half Marathon, 10K, 5K on October 23

As you review the events below, be sure to visit the charity websites to learn more about the organizations benefiting from your registration fees, donations, and fundraising efforts.

In addition, check the event’s website to see how the charity partner is benefiting. Are 100 percent of the event proceeds given to the charity? Does the charity receive promotional benefits only? Does the charity receive a certain number of race entries in return for providing event volunteers? A charity may benefit from an event in many different ways. The answers can usually be found on the event’s FAQ, Charity, or About page. Each event should also have an email address or online contact form for any additional questions you might have.

Have a fabulous October, enjoy the warm autumn days, and get yourself a pumpkin!
